Lions Basketball Clenches The Sweep Against The Panthers

Lions Basketball took on the Paradise Panthers on January 7 this past Friday, stole away the Panther’s hopes of winning against them with finishing out the game with a score of 63-50. Lions opened up the first quarter putting up 24 points up against Paradise’s 13. In the second quarter, Paradise tried to come back and shrunk Ponder’s lead to 6 points. However, in the third quarter, the Lions brought back the lead to 9 points, then finished out the game with a 13 point lead and took the win. The leading scorers were Hayes Hutcherson with 21 points, and Tyler Long with 19 points. The Lions after this game are 3-0 in District, and continue their 6-0 winning streak at home.

The JV Red Lions fought till the very end in their very close game against Paradise, and sealed in a win in the very last seconds of the game with a score of 44-42. The Lions took the lead in the 1st half, however the game stayed at a closed 10 point lead the whole time. As Coach Hunter Dean stated, “Paradise edged the lead out finally late, but thanks to a well timed timeout and drawn play the Lions get 1 in the final 20 seconds. Then the defense managed down the last ticks to seal the win.” The leading scorers were Case Peacock with 10 points and Riggs Arterberry with 9 points.

The JV White took the win with a score of 46-30. The leading scorer for this game was Sean Akins with 19 points. Jorin Roberts and Austin Vanzuiden put up 6 points each.
