Lady Lions Take On Big Schools at Colleyville Tourney

On November 11-13, the PHS Lady Lions Basketball competed at the Colleyville Tournament. In their first game on November 11 against Mansfield Summit, the lady lions came up short of winning and lost 48-72. One of our top scorers Karly Ivy, was sadly injured in the beginning of the 1st quarter, and the lady lions brought up some JV players to finish up the last 3 quarters. The top scorer for Ponder this game was Marlee Moynagh with 19 points. Tate Wells came up with 11 points, Kassi Ballard had 6 points, Kenzie Crider with 4 points, Devyn Weiland and Skye Gill each had 3 points, and Presley Calhoun and Sophia Vargas each had 1 point.

On the second day, our Lady Lions put up 59 points against Arlington Bowie’s 46, and ending that game with a win. The leading scorer for this game was Tate Wells with 22 points. Kassi Ballard had 15 points, Marlee Moynagh had 7 points, Presley Calhoun came up with 6 points, Kenzie Crider and Skye Gill each had 4 points, and Sophia Vargas had 1 point. After this great win, the lady lions decided to fight back even harder and stomped away their next opponent’s hopes of winning against them, and defeated Dunbar 72-49. The leading scorer was once again the stellar Tate Wells with 24 points. Kenzie Crider had 16 points, Marlee Moynagh had 10 points, Kassi Ballard had 8 points, Skye Gill with 6 points, Presley Calhoun with 5 points, and Devyn Weiland with 3 points.

On Saturday, the Lady Lions played their very last game of the tournament which was theĀ  consolation championship vs LD Bell. The Lady Lions played well and fought until the end, but sadly lost. In the end, the final score ended with LD Bell racking up 50 points, and Ponder coming up short with 37 points. The leading scorer for this final game was once again Tate Wells with 17 points. Kassi Ballard had 11 points, Marlee Moynagh with 4 points, Devyn Weiland and Skye Gill each had 2 points, and Kenzie Crider had 1 point.
