Lions Have Sad Loss to Boyd

Jerrett Deweber

The Ponder Lions’ last game was a defensive coordinator’s dream as it was a hard fought game defensively. We started off kicking it, and they couldn’t get anywhere on their first three drives, but their defense was stout, too and wouldn’t let up a score. Then they got the ball back from a late fumble in the second quarter that came from a busted play, and the momentum was on their side. They drove on us for a couple of first downs before they lobbed it up for a spectacular catch in the back of the endzone to end the half.

When we came out of the locker room we were looking to punish Boyd for scoring on us, but it was most of the same as we had a nice drive that probably would’ve ended with a score if it weren’t for another fumble. Then after the fumble Boyd’s offense capitalized again as they had a short 5 yard quarterback keeper into the endzone for a touchdown. The rest of the game was just defense as no one scored for the last 20 minutes of the game.

This was the hardest most important game of the year against an amazing opponent. If we play like this for the rest of the year then there’s no doubt that playoffs are in our future. Now it’s on to the Brock Eagles.
