On Tuesday, October 1st the Lady Lions Volleyball team took on the Gunter Lady Tigers in a pivotal district game on breast cancer awareness night. Each of the teams entered the game with an undefeated district record, meaning the winner would stand alone at the top of the standings. In a postseason atmosphere, the Lady Lions came out and jumped on Gunter, maintaining a sturdy lead throughout the first set and cruising to a 25-13 set win. Gunter returned fire in the second, making it much tougher on the Lady Lions. The Lady Tigers were able to build a small lead, but couldn’t close out the set before the Lady Lions made their comeback and stole the second 26-24. The Lady Lions, now  looking to sweep Gunter, got off to another good start in the third. The Lady Tigers fought back and made it close, but the Lady Lions closed out the sweep in dramatic fashion 25-23. Senior Sterling Wilkinson shared the team lead in kills with 9 as well as adding 6 digs. Junior Harper Mulkey also had 9 kills and Junior Cordie Ford tallied 5 kills along with 3 aces. Senior Kylee Anderson led the defensive effort with 17 digs. The Lady Lions now head into their final bye week of the season alone as the undefeated leaders of the district.
