The Lady Lions Volleyball team has swung back into action and is already off to a hot start to the season. Coach Snider and the team are ready to make another deep playoff run after advancing all the way to the regional quarterfinal last year. The Lady Lions will be led by four returners this season including seniors Kylee Anderson and Sterling Wilkinson, and juniors Harper Mulkey and Averee Tipton.

After a home loss against Van Alstyne to begin the year, the team traveled to take on 4A Celina. The Lady Lions got off to a bit of a slow start and dropped the first set 16-25 to the Lady Cats. In the second set, the Lady Lions battled hard and gave Celina everything they could handle but ultimately fell short by a score of 24-26. The Lady Lions would go on to suffer the same fate in the third set as well, falling 24-26 as well. Junior Harper Mulkey led the team with 12 kills, and Senior libero Kylee Anderson had 17 digs.

The Lady Lions then traveled to Nocona to take on Lady Indians. This match was a hard fought battle throughout, with neither team giving an inch the entire night. The Lady Lions grinded out a first set win 25-22, and that would be the largest margin of victory in a set all night. Sets two and three kept the excitement going, but the Lady Lions fell short 23-25 and 25-27. The games continued to go back and forth and in the end the Lady Lions were able to pull out a win in set four 27-25 to force a deciding 5th set. The final set followed the trend of the rest of the game and ended up needed extra points to get a winner. Nocona was eventually able to edge out the Lady Lions 16-14 and get the win. Senior Sterling Wilkinson led the team with 19 kills in the marathon match, and Averee Tipton had 15 digs and 42 assists.

The Lady Lions now headed to Glen Rose for their first tournament of the season. Pool play games were played on Friday August 16th, and in the tournament debut they lost a tough game to Bushland 26-24 and 25-9. In game two, the Lady Lions got their first win of the tournament with 25-14 and 25-22 set wins over Henrietta. Kylee Anderson totaled 17 digs in the win. After the 1-1 start the Lady Lions were able to get another win over NCTA 25-13 and 25-23. Sterling Wilkinson and Junior Cordie Ford combined for 17 kills in the win. In the final game of pool play, the Lady Lions were able to get a win over Eastern Hills 25-9 and 25-14.

The Lady Lions drew a tough opening match-up in bracket play on Saturday despite a 3-1 pool play record. The team began the day against Lorena, and pulled out a 26-24 win in a back and forth set. After dropping set two 19-25, the team lost a hard fought battle in the third 22-25 and fell short in the match. In game two of the day, the Lady Lions used a versatile offensive attack to get the win, 25-17 and 24-21. the Lady Lions then got set to take on Andrews, and used a great defensive effort to get the win, 25-17 and 25-18, with every player on the team recording a dig. The Lady Lions then set their sights on Saginaw in the final game of the tournament. The team dropped the first set 18-25, and fought fatigue before falling short 22-25 in the second set. The team finished 8th out of 30 teams and had a very successful tournament.
