Now that summer is almost here, the hot weather is back once again. After hanging with friends and swimming all day,  one thing that you always need is the summer favorite, lemonade. But if you’re looking to change it up a little bit, a good alternative is orange-ade. If you are not a fan of orange citrus, then give watermelon punch a try after a long day of being in the sun.

Orange-ade recipe:

  • 3 lemons (juiced)
  • 6 oranges (juiced)
  • 2 cups of white sugar
  • 1/3 cup real lemon juice
  • Mix them all together with ice and water to make 1 gallon and add lemon and orange slices

watermelon punch recipe:

  • 1 seedless watermelon
  • 12 oz. of lemonade
  • 2 cups of unsweetened pineapple juice
  • Place watermelon flesh in an electric blender; process until smooth. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer; discard solids.
  • Return watermelon to a blender. Add lemonade and pineapple juice and blend well. You can add simple syrup if you prefer a sweeter punch. Transfer to watermelon bowl.
  • Served chilled over crushed ice. Give the watermelon punch a stir before you enjoy it to make sure all ingredients are combined.

To go along with your drinks, snacks are a must-have. Some foods that pair well with fruity drinks are monster cookies and chips with watermelon salsa. Although watermelon is not a typical form of salsa, it adds a new twist to the classic flavor.

Monster Cookies recipe:

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 12-ounce jar creamy peanut butter
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup chocolate M&Ms
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup raisins, optional
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 4 1/2 cups quick-cooking oatmeal (not instant)

Watermelon salsa recipe:

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons lime zest (from about 1 lime)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (from about 3 limes)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • 3 cups seeded and finely chopped watermelon
  • 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded and diced
  • 1 mango, peeled and diced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 8 fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • Tortilla or pita chips, for serving

Enjoy your summer snacks!
