The Ponder Lions played a two game series in the Bi-District playoffs against the Van Alstyne Panthers last Friday, May 3rd and Saturday, May 4th. Friday’s game was very much a defensive dual, with only 9 strikeouts combined from both teams, but only 3 runs allowed in the game. Connor Spivey pitched for the Lions and gave up 3 runs with 5 hits. Van Alstyne’s Chandler David threw the whole game as well and only gave up one hit to the Lions. Mason Durrett had the Lions only hit in the first game. In the second game, Van Alstyne took the lead early and the Lions failed to keep up. Cameron Clark and Bryce Brockett led the team in hits this game, each having two a piece. Reid Shelton pitched for the Lions, going five and two thirds an inning, in which then Zeke Vetrano came in and recorded the last out of the game. The Lions ended up with an 11-14-1 record for the year, and will be graduating seven this year. Come out to the All Sports banquet on Monday, May 13th to congratulate them on a great season.
