Bad hygiene? In high school?  Sounds like a problem for elementary or at least middle school, right?  Well believe it or not, everyone needs some gentle (or not so gentle) reminders occasionally.  So here are some tips for good hygiene:

Bathing regularly is important to remove bacteria that is built up on our bodies daily, but is also helps our self-confidence, physical and emotion well-being. It is important to wash the hair at least twice a week to keep it free from dirt and grease.  I mean, everybody loves a Greaser, but only in The Outsiders.

Deodorant is a must at the high school age for everyone. You must wear it daily, and you may need to apply it more than once especially if you are in PE or athletics.  Axe won’t cover it all, and overusing that stuff is counter productive to bad hygiene.  It comes in all scents, solids, gels, roll-ons, natural, etc.  So many choices…try them all…just use them!

Trim nails to prevent dirt from building up, it causes fungal and bacteria infections, it can cause food poisoning.  But please do this at home in privacy, not in public, and especially not in a classroom or the lunchroom- yuk!

Brush teeth to prevent cavities, removing plaque, and remove the bacteria that costs your teeth, plus it freshens your breath.  Mints are nice to help with breath, too!   Don’t let your nickname become “Dragon Breath”.  You want to be known as “The Machine” or “The Fashionista”.

Wash your hands every time you use the restroom, cough, or sneeze into your hand.  The high school is a hotbed of germs especially during flu season, so wash up!  Washing your hands removes germs that cause infections and diseases.  Not washing, well, that’s just nasty!  Like NASTEEEE!!!

Clothing needs to be washed, too, especially if you were sweating in it.  If not, then it can be worn again, if you insist.  I am talking to you- perpetual favorite hoodie wearers- take if off and wash it over the weekend.  Please! It is okay for you two to spend some time apart…trust me.  Plus Febreeze works on clothing- it isn’t just for furniture or carpet.
