On Friday, September 28th the Ponder Lions traveled to Paradise to take on the Panthers in another District match up. Both teams came into the game off a loss in their district openers, with the Lions falling to Boyd and Paradise losing to Whitesboro. It was a low scoring first quarter in this one with Paradise leading 3-0 after one. The Lions got it going the second quarter behind Senior Carlos Zepeda who scored a 76-yard touchdown and followed it with another 28-yard score in the quarter giving the Lions a 14-10 lead at halftime. The teams traded punches in the third quarter, with Senior Kaden Doolittle recovering a fumble and taking 25 yards to the house for the Lions, and Senior PJ Orr scoring as well. The Lions were able to maintain a 27-24 lead going into the fourth. Paradise jumped on the Lions in the final quarter, outscoring the exhausted Ponder team 14-0 and was able to sneak away with a 38-27 win. Carlos Zepeda had his best game of the season for the Lions, rushing for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Lions are now 0-2 in district play and get set to take on a very good Pilot Point team next week as each game becomes more critical to the Lions’ playoff hopes.
