Last Thursday I was lucky enough to attend the first round of the NFL Draft held at AT&T Stadium. The first round was eventful as four quarterbacks were taken in the first ten overall picks, which has never happened before. Baker Mayfield, this years Heisman trophy winner, went first overall to the Cleveland Browns, who held two picks in the top 5 following their 0-16 season. Also in the first round Marcus Davenport, a defensive end selected by the Saints, was the first ever first round selection taken from the University of Texas-San Antonio. The Falcons added Calvin Ridley, the top receiver prospect, to add to their already talented offense. The Giants took arguably the best prospect in the draft second overall in Saquon Barkley a running back from Penn State. The Ravens traded to get the last pick in the first round, and selected the 2016 Heisman winner Lamar Jackson. Finally, “America’s Team”, the Dallas Cowboys, took Leighton Vander Esch, a linebacker from Boise State with the 19th pick in the first round. Overall, this was an experience I will never forget and it will be interesting to see how every pick does this upcoming season.
