Ponder Melts The Burg Again

On Tuesday, January 30th, the Ponder Lions took on the Callisburg Wildcats in a district matchup. The JV White Lions got another big win behind Sophomore Reese Arterberry, who got hot from the three point line. JV Red Lions posted a blow out as well, with Sophomore Jase Hutcherson leading the way. The Varsity Lions took their 26-5 (8-0 in district) record up against the struggling 8-18 (1-6 in district) Wildcats. Ponder stomped on the pedal from the get-go, leaping out to a 27-10 first quarter lead. The rest of the game played out the same way, as the Lions continued building onto the lead. The game ended with a final score of 81-33, with the Lions maintaining their top spot in the district standings. Dean Akins led the team in scoring with 18 points, as well as adding 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Senior Tye Schluter also had a big night as he broke Chase Harris’ school record for three pointers made in a single season. Tye looks to add on to his record breaking season as the team gets set for an away match up against the Whitesboro Bearcats on Friday.
