The Lions maintained their large lead throughout the entire game and finished with a 73-45 victory. Tye Schluter led the team with a season high 33 points. Junior Remi May led the Bobcats with 18. After a good night vs. Krum, all three Ponder teams got set for the stacked Bowie tournament. JV White finished great, beating Burk Burnett in the championship. JV Red went 3-1 with a hard fought victory over an Australian team, but also a sluggish loss to Decatur. Varsity opened the tournament against the #1 team in the state with the opportunity to move up in the rankings. The game started out close, but Bowie slowly pulled away and came away with a 59-39 victory in a seeding game. After that Ponder marched through the tournament, with blowout victories over North Lamar, Weatherford, and Azle to get them into the championship. Ponder got set to take on an athletic Saginaw team in the championship. It was a seesaw game all the way to the finish and eventually headed into overtime. The back and forth affair continued into overtime before Cameron Clark hit a circus shot at the buzzer to win. Tye Schluter led the team with 27 points. Rylan Waldo added 10 rebounds and Blake Gibson had 9. Tye Schluter also earned the high honor of tournament MVP.
