The Lions Maul the Mustangs

The Ponder Lions notched their first win last Friday night against the Cityview Mustangs. The Lions ran the ball for a total of 270 yards led by Kaden McEwen with a total of 171, Carlos Zepeda with a total of 84 yards and Mason Durrett with 12 yards on the ground. The leading receiver for Ponder was Oscar Martinez with a 32-yard touchdown catch. Mason Durrett led the Lions in the air with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Oscar Martinez. The Lions had just 24 minutes of possession compared to Cityview’s 43 minutes. The Lions had a total of 12 first downs with 2 turnovers, 3 punts, and a total of 302 yards. The Lions went into overtime this game,  and they won with a 9-yard touchdown run by Carlos Zepeda and a 2 point conversion that sealed the win that put them up against the Mustangs. Then the Mustangs made a charge back down the field, but it was interrupted in the end zone by Mason Durrett to seal the dub for the Lions. Come out and support your Ponder Lions at home this Friday, September 15th against Holiday at 7:30.
The JV played last week against City View HS rebounding with a win after opening the season with a loss. They ran the ball well, led by Cameron Carroll and Dimitri Stowers, both scoring two touchdowns each. Ashton McCall added a touchdown as well. On defense, the team was led by Dimitri Stowers, Nicolas Waymire, Hunter Green, and Christian Scott. The team is looking forward to testing themselves against Holiday this Thursday.
